2/1/1942No. 4 Squadron of the IAF was born in the war at Peshawar. The Squadron was first equipped with Lysander aircraft. The Second World War was in its third year and Japanese forces were advancing towards India's eastern frontiers.
11/23/1908Durga Das, famous social reformer and journalist, was born.
9/26/1977Uday Shankar (Chowdhury), producer and director of dance-based film 'Kalpana', passed away. He was the elder brother of Pandit Ravishankar. His main achievement was the blending of the Indian classical style with the Western Ballet and various folk dances.
5/12/1984Dr. Rajah Sir Muthiah Chettiar, social reformer, passed away at Madras.
10/28/1929Narotam Puna, cricketer (Bombay NZ off-spinner v England 1966), was born.
7/21/1988Indian National Satellite (INSAT-1C) launched. This is operational multi-purpose communication and meteorology satellite. It served for only one and a half years. It was launched by European Ariane launch vehicle Ariane-3.
11/24/1932The Third Round Table Conference ended in London. As Gandhi was in prison because of his civil disobedience movement he could not attend it. This conference ended without achieving anything.
