Historical Event on 6/6/1916

Lord Kitchener, the premier soldier of the British Empire, passed away tragically last night as the ''Hampshire'', the cruiser on which he was traveling to Russia to boost sagging morale, struck a mine or was torpedoed off the Orkney Islands and sank, drowning all aboard. Life in London came to a standstill, while Paris and Washington were shocked by the news. In the last half-century, through tireless energy and devotion to imperial duty, Horatio Herbert Kitchener, 66, commanded in Palestine, Cyprus, Egypt, Sudan, South Africa, and India. Two years ago, he had become the War Secretary.

12/23/1912Rash Behari Ghosh and Sachin Sanyal threw a bomb at Viceroy Lord Hardinge II in Delhi. He had come to Delhi on an elephant for the initiation of the new capital. The Viceroy was injured in the bomb blast.
11/15/1989Test debut of Sachin Tendulkar and Waqar Yunus at Karachi.
10/26/1947After the tribal column, raping and looting along the way by Pakistani Army continued at Baramulla, 50 kilometres from Srinagar. Maharaja of Jammu & Kashmir Hari Singhji, then, signed the instrument of accession with India and the Indian Armed Forces reacted to the Pakistani Army's infiltration. Great acts of personal gallantry and collective bravery were shown in the Kashmir operations. Major Som Nath Sharma was awarded the PVC, India's highest decoration for valour, and Brigadier Usman, commanding the 50th Parachute Brigade, was awarded the MVC. Both the soldiers were awarded posthumously.
