Historical Event on 4/2/1679
Aurangzeb reimposed Jizya Tax to finance the spread of Islam on the Hindus.This Jeziya tax was abolished by Akbar.

8/9/1942	Mahatma Gandhi after announcing 'do or die' slogan alongwith 'Quit India Movement' at Bombay was arrested along with 50 others. Gandhiji was interned in Aga Khan Palace at Poona. This Do or Die slogan deep rooted in Indian hearts and resulted in nationwide Quit India Movment. This day is commemorated as ""Kranti Day"". Govind Vallabh Pant was send to Ahmednagar Jail, while Sarojini Naidu and many other leaders were also arrested.
4/18/1612	Marriage of Shahjahan and Mumtaj Mahal.
1/15/1949	General K. N. Kariappa became the first Indian Commander-in-Chief. He was the first Indian to reach to this post in Indian Army. In 1956, he was designated as Chief of the Army Staff - General, later Field Marshal. This event is commemoratively observed as Army Day.
4/22/1999	Lok Sabha passes the 1999-2000 general budget through voice vote but without a debate and without amendments.

7/24/1989	A majority of opposition members in Lok Sabha resign on the issue of C & AG report on Bofors gun deal.
1/1/1987	United Nations General Assembly announced this year to be observed as the ""International Year of Shelter for the Homeless"". (5-10-87).
